Accredited training

2004 – 2005 was Growability’s first year providing accredited training courses within the Units. We have written these courses ourselves, and obtained accreditation through the Open College Network. The courses are funded by the Learning Skills Council. Courses are currently suspended while the basis of this funding is discussed. The funding of staffing of the HTU’s by the Care Trust / NCC covers “care”. Funding from the LSC is needed for Growability to provide accredited training.

Millennium Trail Sculpture Project

At the OGM in November 04 it was agreed that Growability would sponsor a project to create sculptures within the grounds of Ridley Hall. An application for a grant from the Arts Council was turned down in April 2005 and we are planning either to re-submit or to seek alternative funding. Links to the project proposal and to project progress will be provided here.

A

“design & build” garden service which makes your garden work for you. If you live in Tynedale, Northumberland, and have a garden that is a nuisance rather than a pleasure, we may be able to help. We provide a personal service, looking at problems of access, levels, layout, too much maintenance, etc, and providing plans and a quotation before you decide if you would like us to do the work. Call John McKee on 07724146089 to arrange an initial visit. We carried out our first contract in 2005, and details and photos of this are given here. Now, in September 2006, we are working on contract number 8.

Growability at Chelsea Flower Show in 2008

G

rowability are seeking sponsorship for entering a courtyard garden in the Chelsea Flower Show in 2008. This garden is being created jointly by the three Units. For more information and to watch our progress, follow this link.

Growability working breaks

Clive Moon and Ann Brown are developing the idea of offering working breaks to small groups of adults with learning disabilities at the Units at Sleekburn and Ridley Hall. Both of these Units could offer reasonable camping facilities, and a wide range of work (organic vegetable growing, grass cutting, working with willow, conservation work, woodland trail construction, woodland management, etc) for people to get involved with during their stay.
